New York, NY and Columbus, OH – (April 21, 2006) – Horizon Wimba announced today that all member institutions of the Ohio Learning Network (OLN) are eligible to participate in a pilot of any or all of its collaborative software products starting in the Spring 2006 semester. The pilots can be customized based on each school’s needs. The deadline to sign up for the pilot program is May 15, 2006.
Horizon Wimba products include:
1) Live Classroom
Integrated into Blackboard and WebCT, Live Classroom allows faculty and students to teach and meet live online by combining state-of-the-art interactive technologies such as voice, video, application sharing, polling, and whiteboarding, with traditional best practices of instruction. Now, enjoy the best elements of face-to-face and online instruction as faculty and students can talk to each other, express emotion, and feel as if they’re part of a single community.
2) Wimba Voice Tools
Perfect for language learning in Blackboard and WebCT, Horizon Wimba’s web-based voice tools facilitate and promote vocal instruction, collaboration, coaching, and assessment. Increase the interaction and student engagement level of any online learning environment by allowing faculty to easily embed vocal interactions into the page level of their CMS. The tools include: threaded voice boards, voice-enabled email, embedded voice within course pages, and live group discussions and debates.
3) Course Genie
Course Genie is a course authoring tool that helps users take material in Microsoft Word® format and transform it into a dynamic online course. From one Word document, faculty can generate a set of webpages including navigation and interactive features that can be easily added to any CMS such as Blackboard and WebCT.
Using a combination of special styles and dialog boxes, users can add interactive features such as:
* navigation
* table of contents
* formatting
* hyperlinks
* pop-ups
* definitions
* self-test questions
* Windows Media, Flash, & QT movies
* streaming audio and video
* IMS metadata
Course Genie users do not need any special knowledge to add these features, as users build them into their courses using simple styles and dialog boxes that Course Genie has added to the Word environment.
