JOB DESCRIPTION:
Wimba’s Product Development team is expanding and seeking a Director of Interaction Design. This key role will work closely with product managers, engineers, researchers, and customers throughout all stages of the product cycle to provide the “face” of a next generation, feature rich, synchronous and asynchronous collaboration suite for the educational market. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the market’s needs and the ability to work cross-departmentally in order to transform those needs into tangible software solutions. This position reports to the Vice President of Product Management.
- Create and be accountable for the user interaction model, workflows, information architecture, prototypes, and style guidelines for desktop software application and web interfaces.
- Conduct user and design research including: usability studies, user surveys, prototype testing, competitive product analysis, and latest industry & design trend research.
- Develop design concepts, user interface designs and wireframes.
- Present and communicate conceptual ideas and design rationale to cross-functional stakeholders.
- Organize information by creating visualizations of content; sequencing and relating elements; and preparing storyboards.
- Document actions by creating functional descriptions and completing functional specifications with product manager.
REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate will possess demonstrable experience in the following areas:
- Bachelor’s degree, or greater in Computer Science, Graphic Design or related field; strong technical background a plus.
- At least 5 years’ experience in a software development environment.
- Solid portfolio of previous projects or work and work/content references will be checked against examples.
- Solid working knowledge of CSS, HTML, Javascript, AJAX, and design skills in Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Expression or other design package.
- Strong knowledge of cross-platform compatibility required.
- Understanding of issues of accessibility in UI design.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Must be self-motivated to prioritize and manage work load and meet critical project milestones and deadlines.
- Must be an effective problem solver.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build good working relationships.
- The candidate should be able to work independently or as part of a team and must have the ability to learn new technologies.
- Experience working with geographically distributed teams.
- Conversant in engineering topics.
