I want to put Pronto on my laptop which has Ubuntu as its operating system, and I see Wimba doesn’t like Linux. Does anyone know of a way to make this or do i have to scrap the idea. Changing the OS is not an option. Thanks in advance.

Tony,

At the moment Wimba does not support the Linux environment for Pronto.  I have taken your suggestion and posted to our product feedback team.

I would suggest that if others wish to see linux support, that create a product enhancement request at:

http://www.wimba.com/company/contact/?form=product_feedback

Thank you,

James - Wimba Technical Support

James,

does the same apply to Wimba Classroom?  I have seen references that it should work in linux with limited functionality, but am having trouble in ubuntu 10.04.  I submitted a ticket: https://d2.parature.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=8052&ticketID=9191692 Thanks.

As long as there is no support for Linux (or XMPP/Jabber) I will not use this product, and not recommend it to others either.  And I will put a formal complain to our IT support to change this product.

Support for XMPP would also make it possible to access students and classes through any Jabber client, like in iPhone or Android.

I have seen some indication of support for XMPP, but not in any usefull place, like when you try to install Wimba Pronto and there isn’t any support for your OS.

Yours
