Our student council wants to host a movie night and stream a movie in a Wimba Classroom for 25 students to view simultaneously.

Has anyone tried doing this before? How well has it worked?

Has anyone else had issues with pronto and the newest Mac OS release (Snow Leopard 10.6)? My pronto opens up and acts like it is going to work and then crashes.

Is it just me or is this an actual issue?

Sometime we record the classes on Wimba for classroom Management. But the students keep watching them when they’re not supposed to in class. How can I configure Wimba to stop them from doing this?

When I am using wimba classroom and have the talk button locked down it fluctuates up and down and sometimes in the middle of speaking it goes all the way down and students can’t hear me. Is there anyway of locking this so it doesn’t fluctuate so I can focus on lecturing and not worrying about whether my students can hear me or not.

Thanks,

Hack to allow students to use lock talk when presenting a debate or presentation

Increasingly students are being asked to do presentations using Wimba Classroom. Often the lecturer will promote the student to being a presenter by clicking the (-) next to their name in the right most column in the PEOPLE WINDOW.

Sometimes promoting a student to presenter status is not possible e.g. when doing a debate and keeping the teams in their own breakout rooms before the debate or in the preparation time between speakers.

A quick hack to allow participants to use lock talk without marking them a presenter is to get the student to rest the corner of a book on the CONTROL key to hold down the button. They have to remember to take the book off the button when they have finished their presentation (see attached picture). Presenters can also temporally promote students to being a presenter (so they have the LOCK TALK option by clicking the (-) in the right most column next to their name in the PEOPLE window.

Of course if students do this when they are not presenting there will be more background noise in the room. If the person does not remove their own personal LOCK TALK book, the presenter will quickly MUTE them by clicking (+) under the Mic column next to their name in the PEOPLE WINDOW.

Feel free to post other Wimba tips and hints to this forum ... we can all work together.

I dont see an option to export files from Diploma into version 8. Export into version 7 doesn’t seem to work. Has anyone else had luck doing this? or when is a new version coming out of Diploma? Is Blackboard now in version 9? why the delay w/ Diploma?

Wimba Create and the New Blackboard Learn

Hi

I have been asked to have a look at the new Blackboard Learn system and have been given a 30 test account. We rely heavily on Wimba Create to make our course units. Does anyone have any idea how the generated packages from Create get pulled into BB Learn?

We have BB Vista8 at the moment and I usually generate a WebCt ims package and it slots right in—easy!!

Thanks

A clock and debate timer you can display during a Wimba session

I have been working with staff from Law who run online debates in Wimba. One thing they have requested is a debate timer (you remember the one that rings one bell at 3 minutes then two bells at 5 mins).

While not perfect it is close (enough)—see the following image.

The page that you need to push to the branding frame is available for your use at:
http://www.usq.edu.au/users/evansp/browse/wimba/debatetimer/

The page contains instructions for loading the debate timer (or clock) into the content frame.

I’ll be talking about this and other things Wimba at the Wimba Distinguished Lecture Series presentation advertised at http://www.wimba.com/company/events/1712

Regards,
